Baby Steps! That's all it takes to get started.
Looking from the perspective of the four pillars I ask clients to work from to make changes, here are some suggestions of very doable steps you can take to help you get started:
Food:
Stop eating between meals or stop drinking
sodas and other sugary beverages.
Have an apple for dessert instead of a cookie.
Add a salad a day to your diet.
Stress:
Take 15 minutes for yourself every day without fail...go for a walk, sit on your deck with a cup of tea, take a catnap. This is a time when you do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for anyone else. Eventually increase your time to two 15-minute periods or even 30 minutes.
Movement:
This depends on where you are starting from. If you do no exercise whatsoever walk from your front door to the mailbox every day or walk around one block every day or walk to your friend’s house and back every day.
If you already exercise, try a change in routine ~ add sprints every 7 to 10 days
Sleep:
If you have difficulty sleeping, try unplugging from ALL electronic devices for just 30 minutes before bed (including the TV). Take steps to make sure your bedroom is truly dark or plug your cell phone, etc. into their chargers in another room.
Pick one or two things on this list and give them a try for a week. The magic of baby steps is they build on each other. You can do this. As you feel better with each baby step, a whole world of possibilities begins to open before you.
